After the earthquake of 1963 the Catholic community of Skopje was left without anywhere to worship. Thanks to the care of the then bishop of Skopje, Mgr Joakim Herbut, three huts were provided: one as a place of worship, the second as the parish house and the third as a home for the sisters. The cathedral was built in a relatively short time, yet many of the faithful had grown used to coming to Mass in this very chapel.
Holy Mass is still celebrated there every Sunday at 08:30, and the Divine Liturgy in the Eastern Catholic rite at 10:30. The chapel is dedicated to St Joseph.
